💓Čičmany Village Slovakia💓

The village Čičmany is well known for its originally painted wooden houses. The ornaments painted on the houses are listed in UNESCO Intangible Heritage List. Despite of great fire in 1921, the majority of houses were fortunately restored to its original appearance. The ornaments were painted using white lime, which had the function of conservation and protection of the wood.

Čičmany is a village and municipality in Žilina District in the Žilina Region of northern Slovakia. It is known as the first folk architecture reserve in the world. Well, you can find all that with google, but what you can't find is, what does the symbols on buildings means! The official statement is that since our ancestors were analfabets... you can't read anywhere about them anything. Therefore we have only some theories, like it might be protecting symbols or just decoration.

But, Thanks to internet I find meaning of some slavic symbols!
1. Womb.
2. Divided space (diagonal cross).
3. Symbolize structure of the world, Cosmic Tree.
4. Heart, symbolizes the fire of soul that is bringing people together, caring heart, sign of burning and loving heart.
5. Water symbolizes the flow of substance (blood, which is the power of kin), life, information (knowledge), which comes from a combination of runes:
6. Filled goblet of Dažbog (sign, blessing, wealth given by God) and 7. Inverted goblet of Dažbog (Nav, loss, destruction, cleansing, revival) - together it's a real change, of filling and cleansing, life and death, etc..
8. The vertical line represents the direction, the path that leads man to God.
9. Rune / light 10. Rune / svati.
11. Star of God Rod - the Supreme Defence.
12. Sign of life given by God.
That spiral thing is probably animal a ram.

It is neither a museum nor a theme park. Opened in 1977, this Northern Slovakian village is a unique merger of tourism and folklore studies. 👇

The name of the village Čičmany is derived from a Slovak word "Kyčman" which means "village on the mountain peak." Timbered houses with ridge roofs, galleries and pointed or linear wall decorations have been preserved in Čičmany. Of particular interest are the very specific white patterns which are painted on the exterior walls of the houses to decorate them. The local folk music, special folk costumes and folk dances of the village have been preserved as well.
