Medieval in Czechia


The Kingdom of Bohemia, sometimes referenced in English literature as the Czech Kingdom, was a medieval and early modern monarchy in Central Europe. It was the predecessor of the modern Czechia. The Kingdom of Bohemia was an Imperial State in the Holy Roman Empire.

Tournaments (Jousting) happened in Europe from the mid-1100s until the 1620s.
Jousting is a medieval and renaissance martial game or hastilude between two combatants either on horse or on foot. The joust became an iconic characteristic of the knight in Romantic medievalism.

Hunger Wall of Prague (VIDEO)
The Hunger Wall is a medieval defensive wall of the Lesser Town of Prague, today's Czechia. It was built on Petřín Hill between 1360 and 1362 by order of Charles IV. It is 1178 m long, 7.5 - 8 m high, and the average width is 170 cm.

The existence of the Czech State dates back to the early Middle Ages. The Czech lands became a kingdom in the 13th century and its significance reached a peak in the 14th century under the rule of Charles IV, the Czech king and Roman emperor.
